CHAPEL HILL, NC:

A large regional health system in the Southeast and RxLink recently launched a collaborative partnership to drive medication affordability for the health system’s over 1,200,000 patient visits each year. Together, they have delivered over $1,000,000 in total savings on prescribed medications to over 12,000 patients.

The health system is a non-profit health system with over 2,500 board-certified physicians serving in physician practices, urgent care centers and eight state-of-the-art hospital locations. Many of the system’s patients struggle to afford their medications and are further challenged by the complexities of navigating insurance coverage, assistance programs, and discount offers to find the lowest price.

RxLink automatically compares a patient’s insurance out-of-pocket cost versus their insurance co-pay, available savings programs, and the cash price. When a patient can save by using a discount card or manufacturer savings program, the patient is sent an SMS with information and instructions on how to save. Patients are also provided with a link to a web portal where they can add prescriptions for others under their care and see the same medication affordability information.

JB Powell, Head of Partnerships at RxLink, reports, “we’ve supported over 12,000 patients who saved on over 6,500 prescriptions. It’s exciting to see patients benefit from the service. Patients save money and get their medications, and clinicians and staff save time. It’s truly a win-win.”

The most recent RxLink program launched with the health system’s specialty pharmacy promotes continuity of care by making patients aware of the option to fill their prescriptions with the health system they know and trust. Powell is optimistic about the expanded partnership, saying “we expect to continue driving significant revenue for our partner’s pharmacy while patients benefit from added convenience and lower cost.”

About RxLink: RxLink was founded by health care industry pioneers who realized the process of finding the best price for medication, including taking advantage of existing patient support and discount programs, was complicated and difficult to navigate. They decided to do something about it by partnering with health systems to present options based on a patient’s particular situation in an understandable way.
