What is the Pharmacy Select Prescription Transfer Service?
The Pharmacy Select Prescription Transfer Service allows patients to transfer their prescriptions to the pharmacy of their choice. The service also provides information on pricing of prescribed medications including lower prices with a discount card and product availability + delivery times (where applicable).
The service allows patients to choose the pharmacy to which their prescriptions are directed based on lowest cost, convenience, or any preference you may have—all without having to call your prescriber or the pharmacy.
It’s an up-to-date approach to the old paper prescription: you can choose whatever pharmacy you want, even after the prescription has been written. The difference is that you now have more information to make your choice as an empowered patient!
How does the Pharmacy Connect Prescription Transfer Service work?
Patients with an eligible prescription receive an SMS directing them to a web portal where they can choose a different pharmacy from the nearest options. Each pharmacy is listed along with the total price for the prescribed medications. Patients can also search for a new pharmacy by name anywhere in the United States, or they can choose to not transfer their prescription at all.
You will receive an SMS confirmation of any transfer so you know where to pick up your prescription.
Why is the transfer period limited to only 20 minutes?
To ensure that patients who do not engage with the service don’t have a delay in preparation of their prescription, the prescription is directed to the original pharmacy after 20 minutes.
After this period, patients can still transfer their prescriptions using traditional channels: either by calling the pharmacy to which they want to transfer the prescription or by contacting their prescriber.
Why have I been invited to transfer my prescription?
Your health care provider has provided this service in partnership with DoseSpot, their e-prescribing partner, to make sure you can get your prescriptions conveniently and at the lowest cost.
How can I ensure I get the best price?
The Pharmacy Select service calculates the lowest price available based on the retail price of the prescribed medication, the price using a discount card, or your out-of-pocket cost with your insurance if your prescriber has that information on file.
The service will show you the lowest price based on available data, including how to ensure you receive that price at the pharmacy. If a discount card is required to receive the price, you will receive the required card information via SMS. Simply present it at the pharmacy to get the savings.
If your insurance provides the lowest out-of-pocket cost, you will receive an SMS informing you that your insurance will result in the lowest cost.
Do I have to transfer my prescription to save?
Absolutely not. If discount card codes will result in the lowest price, those codes will be included in the initial SMS to you. If you choose to use the original pharmacy, simply present these codes to the pharmacist to receive the savings.
Note that the discount card codes are not universal. They are optimized to provide the lowest cost at a particular pharmacy; if these codes will benefit you, they will appear in an SMS along with the pharmacy where they should be used.
